Finally, Bangladesh established its second century of eco-friendly manufacturers in the textile and ready-made clothing industries. Bangladesh now boasts 200 globally renowned USGBC Certified LEED companies in the apparel and textile industries.

As the country celebrates the certification of its 200th LEED Green Factory by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) proudly announced the significant achievement in its journey towards sustainable industrialization in a press release. This outstanding accomplishment demonstrates Bangladesh's unwavering dedication to environmental protection, economic development, and international competitiveness.

Lida Textile & Dyeing Limited, which achieved LEED Platinum status with a score of 97, and Liz Fashion Industry Limited, which achieved LEED Platinum status with a score of 96 out of 110, are the two new factories that have been awarded the eco-friendly certification.

Faruque Hassan, president of the BGMEA, commended the factory owners as well as their other business owners for their success and dedication to building a more resilient, sustainable, and sustainable industry.

He declared, "Despite all the difficulties and obstacles the industry has encountered, such success demonstrates Bangladesh's resolve to create a robust and sustainable business. The country is united in its pursuit of a greener and more prosperous future as it faces the challenges of the modern world.

According to Faruque Hassan's press statement, this accomplishment represents pioneering sustainability, economic resilience, global leadership, and community empowerment.

Among the 200 RMG factories in Bangladesh that have received USGBC LEED certification, 73 are Platinum, 113 are Gold, 10 are Silver, and 4 are factories. The best factories in the world are found in Bangladesh, which is home to 13 of the top 15 LEED green factories worldwide, according to a news release.

The president of BGMEA stated, "We have up to 500 factories waiting for USGBC accreditation. By the end of this year, I hope we will have certified more factories than ever before in one calendar year.

The press statement also stated that this year, so far, 18 factories have gained LEED certification from USGBC (13 Platinum and 5 Gold), up from 30 garment factories in 2022 (of which 15 were Platinum and 15 Gold).

The USGBC, which was founded in 1993, certifies "LEED" installations, which are green construction projects. Under the direction of the USGBC, a project must adhere to the highest standards from construction to production in order to earn this certification. For meeting all 9 requirements for the LEED certification, there are a total of 110 points. The certificate is labeled "LEED Platinum" if the points are above 80, "LEED Gold," "LEED Silver," "LEED Certified," and "LEED" if the points are between 50 and 59. The majority of Bangladesh's green businesses are accredited under USGBC.

To receive the certification, factories must uphold the highest requirements for carbon emissions, energy and water use, waste management, indoor environmental quality, etc. under the close supervision of the USGBC.
