According to data collected by the International Trade Center (ITC), more than $84 billion worth of trousers are imported each year into the world market, according to BGMEA. About 15% of this is provided by Bangladesh's garment manufacturers with an eye toward export. The BGMEA released data on the top garment exports from Bangladesh on March 18.

Bangladesh has been working to establish a solid place in the export of trousers as a result of the expansion of local capacity in the production of all types of clothing. The quality of the products is also higher than before, and factories in Bangladesh are creating medium- and high-end goods with excellent design and value addition.

Statistics from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) show that the value of men's (men's/boys') cotton woolen pants imported in 2021 was $22.65 billion, with Bangladesh accounting for 21.3 percent of this total. Women's (women's/girls') cotton woolen pants were purchased for $18.93 billion that same year. 16.12 percent of this cargo came from Bangladesh.

Women's cotton knitted pants were imported for $9.3 billion worldwide in 2021, with Bangladesh accounting for 15.19% of that total.

Men's cotton synthetic trousers had an import worth of $8.1 billion at the time, with Bangladesh accounting for 15.98% of that total. Men's cotton knitted trousers had an import worth of $5.94 billion in the same year, with Bangladesh accounting for 9.83 percent of that total.

In 2021, $6.3 billion worth of women's synthetic woolen pants were shipped, with Bangladesh accounting for 3.87 percent of that total. At the same time, Bangladesh contributed 5.54 percent of the $3.6 billion import value of women's non-cotton oven pants. In 2021, the import value of women's synthetic crocheted pants was $9.3 billion, with Bangladesh accounting for 12% of that value.

Stakeholders claim that historically, the pants were primarily produced on a big scale in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, countries with rising overhead costs. Another crucial step in the creation of trousers is washing. Following ecologically friendly washing procedures is now required to a very high standard in China. Due to this problem, many washing factories across the nation had to shut. Bangladesh makes it simpler to manage washing activities in comparison. These elements significantly contributed to Bangladesh's receiving the manufacturing of trousers.

For a very long period, Bangladesh's export industry lacked diversified products. Slowly but surely, the importers are beginning to emerge from this predicament. Because the demand for these fundamental products does not increase, exporters are diversifying their output while maintaining the capacity of those products.

The manufacturing of trousers is a labor-intensive and intricate procedure. There is a chance to add value at every stage, which also raises the supplier's income. Many businesspeople in Bangladesh are now using technologies to produce high value-added goods and are also interested in finding ways to improve the worth of trousers.

However, we are lacking in high-end clothing, such as activewear and outerwear. We need to spend more in our backward linkage industry and upgrade our technological capabilities in order to increase our market share globally.
