The largest cotton sustainability movement in the world, Better Cotton, and the Cotton Egypt Association (CEA), which is in charge of promoting and protecting Egyptian cotton worldwide, have announced a new strategic partnership to expand the Better Cotton program in Egypt.

The effort was launched in 2020 as part of the Egyptian Cotton Project, which was overseen by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC).

According to a press release from Better Cotton and CEA, this partnership intends to significantly improve the sustainability and quality of Egyptian cotton production while ensuring fair working conditions for farmers.

Egyptian cotton is renowned for being of the highest caliber, soft, and durability. Its long history dates back to the nineteenth century, and in the textile industry, it has come to stand for elegance and perfection.

However, issues including global warming, water scarcity, and irrational market demands have seriously threatened the viability of Egyptian cotton farming in recent years.

Better Cotton in Egypt and CEA have joined forces in recognition of the need for proactive measures to safeguard the future of Egyptian cotton. Through this rekindled strategic partnership, both parties will work together to increase the use of sustainable agriculture practices, provide more training and support to farmers, and ensure adherence to strict environmental and social regulations.

Executive Director of CEA Khaled Schuman stated, "We are excited about this strategic partnership with Better Cotton in Egypt."

By pooling our knowledge and resources, we can influence improvements in Egyptian cotton farming practices and ensure the long-term viability of our sector. According to him, this relationship perfectly complements our goal of globally establishing the history of Egyptian cotton.

These actions will enable Egyptian cotton growers to use less water, less chemical pesticides, and better soil health, which will increase the yield of durable and long-lasting cotton.

Additionally, this partnership will give CEA access to Better Cotton's extensive network of business partners, which includes retailers, brands, and textile factories committed to buying sustainable cotton. This agreement would increase the number of markets where Egyptian cotton goods may be sold, ensuring fair compensation for farmers and fostering the development of the country's textile industry.

Better Cotton and CEA are sure that this strategic alliance will support the long-term competitiveness and profitability of Egyptian cotton while also meeting the rising demand for textiles that are produced sustainably and ethically.
