In the fiscal year that concluded on January 28, 2023, Next Plc, a well-known fashion retailer with headquarters in the UK, successfully reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 47%.
This decrease is in line with the company's goal, which was approved by the Science-Based Emission Target Initiative (SBTi), to cut emissions by 55% by 2030 from a baseline year of 2016–17. These goals are consistent with the 1.5 degree Celsius global warming limit set forth in the Paris Agreement.
Furthermore, Next has met their intensity Scope 3 carbon reduction objective, which aimed for a 40% reduction by 2030, by 29%.
The company has also succeeded in keeping 95% of its waste out of landfills, and it has shown its dedication to environmental practices by signing the RE100 and EV100 pledges, pledging to utilize only 100% renewable electricity and switch to electric vehicles, respectively.
The main operational goals of Next are to work with suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of the products they offer, to improve energy efficiency, to increase trash recycling, and to look for ways to make their packaging more sustainable while using less of it.
The business is also working to improve the effectiveness of its delivery fleet, which includes using alternative fuels and giving clients services that let them use their items in creative ways once they are no longer needed.
