Maersk and Inditex, the parent company of fashion companies like Zara and Massimo Dutti, partnered to lessen Inditex's global greenhouse gas footprint from seaborne transportation.

According to the logistics company, this is anticipated to result in a GHG emission reduction of over 80% when compared to conventional sources.

With Maersk's Eco Delivery option, customers can handle delivery exclusively with certified green fuels for a predetermined cost.

Additionally, an externally validated certificate notifies customers of the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and Maersk will no longer be obligated to reimburse these transportation costs under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).

"A lot of customers are asking us for a solution to reduce their Scope 3 emissions, and the first customers are buying this premium solution for their whole cargo under Maersk Bill of Lading now," stated Emilio De La Cruz, Managing Director of Maersk's Area South West Europe, in reference to this. We are pleased to provide Eco Delivery to meet this need right away.

"This collaboration is a great example of how boosting innovative solutions with dedicated partners is key to fight climate change," stated Abel Lopez, Inditex's head of import, export, and transport. By working together with Maersk on this project, we are significantly lowering the emissions related to our maritime cargo.

This research helps to grow alternative fuels with a substantially lower carbon footprint and is in line with our aim of reaching net zero emissions by 2040, he continued.

"Going all the way on their ocean cargo is good news for the environment and climate," says De la Cruz. "We know Inditex is a very responsibly and sustainably thinking partner and customer."

By 2040, Maersk wants to be a net zero business in all aspect of operations. Additionally, Inditex is promoting multimodal transportation and working with Maersk on RENFE and Cepsa, a new rail solution pilot program in the southern region of Spain that was introduced this summer.

Maersk claims that in order to meet its aggressive and reciprocal decarbonization targets, these close partnerships are necessary.
