The RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) has certified 73 Bangladeshi garment manufacturers as compliant and secure production sites.
Following the correction of the non-compliance issues discovered during the initial inspections of the council established by the buyers to monitor workplace safety in RMG businesses, RSC presented them with Letters of Recognition (LoRs).
Three people who represented the industry, international fashion labels, and local and international trade unions came together to form the RSC.
Currently, the RSC covers 1,913 factories, of which 534 have finished all of the preliminary safety findings and 73 have gotten their certificates of compliance (LoR).
"At the RSC, we use a practical, solutions-based approach to address unresolved problems while maintaining safety and standards. However, teamwork is what really motivates us to take on the role of catalyst, according to Abdul Haque, Managing Director of RSC, in a statement released that day.
RSC is a commercial, national, trilateral project to continue Bangladesh's tremendous advancements in occupational safety.
The local Bangladesh Accord office's operations, personnel, guidelines, and physical assets were transferred to the RSC on June 1 of 2020.
Workers in protected RMG factories have access to an independent occupational safety and health complaints procedure run by the RSC, which also conducts safety inspections, training, and inspections.
According to George Faller, Chief Safety Officer of RSC, the RMG sector invested significant resources in developing a safe industry and is now raising awareness that ongoing efforts are required to uphold these safety standards in order to promote a more vibrant business climate.
The Letter of Recognition represents a significant turning point in that process. This industry's innovations serve as the gold standard for safety throughout all other sectors.
The LoR is not a safety certification, but rather an acknowledgement of factories that have addressed all of the original assessment findings and taken significant steps to ensure worker safety as a result.
According to the statement, achieving the LoR shows that plant management has made significant progress in ensuring safety, which in turn increases the viability of the company.
The RSC was established to track the development of the safety-related remediation of the garment manufacturers after exiting the Accord and Alliance.
