A major step forward in the development of the Social & Labor Convergence Program (SLCP) as a stand-alone non-profit organization and its successful split from the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has been announced: the two organizations have extended their strategic engagement.

The organizations will work together to expand the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF) to related product categories and industries in recognition of the importance of industry convergence.

The joint project aims to maximize assessments, reduce duplication, and advance standardization in social and labor instruments across different sectors. Furthermore, SAC and SLCP will collaborate to accelerate insights derived from CAF/Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (FSLM) data.

As part of this collaboration, integrated industry reports that provide stakeholders with comprehensive and helpful data are also produced.

Notably, the SLCP agreed and passed a five-year strategy in September 2023 that included the goal of becoming an autonomous organization.

In the same month, the SAC Board also approved the split plans. SLCP officially separated from SAC on February 1, 2024. SAC announced in a news statement that its new legal form is a "Stichting," a non-profit Dutch foundation.

"As both organizations navigate this exciting new phase, our commitment to shared goals and values is greater than ever and propels us toward catalyzing collective action at scale," stated Andrew Martin, Executive Vice President at SAC.

Reiterating their commitment to a close-knit strategic relationship, SAC and SLCP coordinate their methods and resources to serve a shared objective of improved working conditions globally. The Higg FSLM tool's suggested social compliance assessment framework is the CAF, and the SAC is steadfast in its incorporation and support of it.

"During that time, we have demonstrated the value we can bring, built critical mass, and achieved financial self-sufficiency," said Jonathan Obermeister, the independent chair of SLCP. As a completely independent company, we're now prepared to move forward and have big plans for expansion while keeping the multi-stakeholder culture that has been crucial to our success thus far.
