Responsible 50 Star

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), a global non-profit organization, has unveiled plans for a new strategy intended to build on its ten-year commitment to sustainability. The strategy will be centered on three pillars: battling climate change, ensuring decent work for all, and fostering a future that values nature.

SAC's refocused approach-

To addressing climate change: The SAC is focusing its efforts on developing strong data systems and improving target-setting processes to help the reduction of carbon emissions throughout the supply chain of the textile sector. Initiated last year, the SAC's Decarbonization Programme aims to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030.

Good work for everyone: This pillar's initiatives are intended to advance the adoption of more conscientious brand purchasing habits while also fostering efficient management systems across the broad manufacturing base.

Future that benefits nature: The SAC is dedicated to promoting sustainable resource utilization through the advancement of circular product design and development techniques, supported by fundamental environmental management systems for manufacturers and their facilities.

The SAC continues by saying that its comprehensive data collection activities have shed light on market difficulties.

The SAC's updated data approach seeks to significantly impact industry-wide change through strategic alliances and a collaborative culture by capitalizing on its sizable membership base.

We are at a crossroads in this regard, SAC CEO Amina Razvi stated. Either we can continue to be apathetic spectators or we can drive significant, systemic change. This is a shared adventure, not just one undertaken by the SAC. Our collective influence is accelerated by your participation. We're creating the global roadmap for sustainable industries, not just checking boxes.

SAC has stated in a news release that the release date for Higg FEM 4.0, a tool that is a part of the Higg Index toolkit, is set for November 2023.

The organization's dedication to practical, market-driven solutions and the growth of its work is exemplified by this upgraded tool.

It is believed to provide the following advantages and was created in close conjunction with the SAC's network of brands and producers.

  • Improved data quality will allow for more precise environmental assessments thanks to data precision.

  • Alignment with industry standards: Adherence to GHG Protocol and ZDHC Roadmap to Zero requirements enables accurate Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions calculations, simplifying Scope 3 reporting for brands and retailers.

  • The tool's coverage of important environmental issues has been widened to include everything from soil contamination to groundwater.

  • Streamlined question formats and sophisticated platform capabilities to improve usability and offer additional information. User-centric design.

  • Audit effectiveness: Significantly less duplication of audit benefits manufacturers.
