Faruque Hassan, President of the BGMEA, urged China to work with the organization to share technical expertise and experience in order to grow the nation's apparel industry. When a Chinese delegation from the China Knitting Industrial Association and China Cotton Textile Association arrived for a meeting on January 22, he issued this request.
Faruque Hassan stated at the time that Chinese businesspeople could invest in Bangladesh's high-end textile and backward linking industries. This will be advantageous to both parties. At this point, he emphasized Bangladesh's focus on creating high-value goods, especially clothing made of synthetic fibers.
The transition to non-cotton clothing, he added, would raise demand for fabrics made of synthetic fibers, chemicals, and other raw materials; China, he claimed, was in a good position to supply Bangladesh's demands.
Opportunities for trade and investment as well as heightened bilateral collaboration were explored at the meeting. The topic of growing commercial prospects between Bangladesh and China in the textile and garment industries was brought up during the debate.
Wei Wei, the vice director of the China Knitting Industrial Association's department, Jing Shenquan, the vice chairman of the China Cotton Textile Association, and Lin Yunfeng, the chairman of the China Knitting Industrial Association, were among the Chinese delegates. Experts in raw materials, chemicals, and textile machinery were among the delegation's members, along with representatives from many Chinese businesses.
In addition to BGMEA President Faruque Hasan, other attendees included Senior Vice President SM Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President (Finance), Directors Faisal Samad and Harun-Ar-Rashid, and Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan.
