The French fashion retailer Kiabi, which was established in 1978 in Northern France and now has 579 stores in 25 countries, has announced its membership in the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol.

In the retail fashion industry, Kiabi is dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally responsible practices and sustainable sourcing.

With 72% of its goods already made with sustainable fibers, Kiabi's "2030 Vision" seeks to combine positive fashion with sustainability. By 2025, the company hopes to have 100% of its products made with sustainable fibers, which will reduce energy and water use while limiting pollution and habitat damage in the supply chain.

Seventy percent of the raw materials utilized in Kiabi's goods are cotton. They will receive complete supply chain transparency by tracking U.S. Cotton and/or Protocol Cotton using the program's exclusive Protocol Consumption Management Solution (PCMS).

Additionally, Kiabi will be able to make reasonable environmental claims for its products or perform internal calculations of Scope 3 emissions using Protocol Consumption Units (PCCUs).

The only sustainable cotton system that promotes continual development in six essential sustainability metrics—land usage, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency—is the Trust Protocol. It offers measurable, verifiable targets and measures. It is also the first to provide members with supply chain transparency down to the article level.

The raw materials head at Kiabi, Virginie Cayzeele, commented on this, saying, "As we strive to meet our ambitious goals and look more closely at our suppliers and their processes."

We must be able to assess our scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions and biodiversity hazards with confidence and accuracy, which includes measuring ongoing improvement across our sustainability KPIs. In our efforts to safeguard and preserve our planet, the blockchain-enabled value chain transparency solution offered by the Trust Protocol will guarantee thorough and substantiated evidence," she continued.

"We're pleased to welcome Kiabi to the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol and support their commitment to sustainable cotton sourcing," said Dr. Gary Adams, President of the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, beaming. As they work toward their social and environmental objectives, we are eager to give them quantifiable, credible information and results.

The Trust Protocol is a component of the Cotton 2040, Cotton 2025 Sustainable Cotton Challenge, Textile Exchange, Forum for the Future, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, and Cotton Up programs. It is also in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, it has been confirmed as an ISEAL Community Member, certified as a standard for sustainable cotton by the German Federal Government, published in the International Trade Center Standards Map, and acknowledged as a standard for sustainable cotton by the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles.

A voluntary, science-based sustainability initiative at the farm level, the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol is creating new benchmarks for value delivery to all parties involved in the supply chain, from farms to final products.

It is the only method that promotes continual development in six essential sustainability metrics: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency. It also provides quantitative, verifiable goals and measurement. Additionally, it is the first sustainable cotton fiber initiative in the world to provide all participants with article-level supply chain transparency.

In 2022, KIABI had revenues of 2.2 billion euros, an increase of 10% over 2021. Designed in France by a team of 56 in-house stylists, KIABI fashion produces collections that are affordable, appealing, and responsibly sourced, all because the brand has always been dedicated to serving families.

KIABI, the brand of choice for families, is home to around 10,000 Kiabers from 83 different countries.
